Marwa Khaboor

Job Title:
ITS Graphic Web Apprentice
Employer:
Yale University

People told me it would be hard to find a job because I graduated from a university in Iraq and I didn’t have experience here in the US. When I heard this, I was so sad. I had all the things they wanted. But I didn’t know how I was going to get a job.

I received a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science in 2008 and came to the United States in 2010. When I came here, I already spoke English, as well as Turkish, Greek, and Arabic. I had already worked in computer and administrative jobs.

When I heard about New Haven Works, I knew it was going to make a difference for me. They got me in the door.

At my job I design and fix websites. We use Druple 6 and 7,   manage calendar events, create newsletters, and assist in building websites using HTML, CSS, Drupal, Dreamweaver, and Photoshop, Excel. I like it so much—I’m so happy that this is my job. The group is wonderful and helpful. We work like a team.
