Shannon is from Lowell, Massachusetts and attended High School in Nashua, NH. She moved to New Haven in 1999 to attend college at Quinnipiac University and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Health Sciences. She began her professional career in the pharmaceutical and medical device industries and after a decade of state service at the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station in public health research, made a career change to social services.
Shannon has always been involved in community action and volunteer work and has found those experiences to be the most rewarding and impactful. Shannon first came to New Haven Works as a member in 2013 and shortly thereafter began to volunteer. It was the passion for the people of our communities and the true grass roots approach, resourcefulness, and determination of this tiny but mighty agency to succeed that drove her to enter a term of service with Public Allies, an AmeriCorps program.
New Haven Works supported her learning by hosting her as a data fellow for 8 months in 2015 and 2016. That period helped develop her interests in supporting the reentry population and the focus on building social and economic equity across the communities of the city. From there, she spent time working with EMERGE, Inc. to start up a YouthBuild program for New Haven and went on to work as a Job Developer with New Haven AIC Forensic Health Services. She joined the New Haven Works team as a Job Coach in August 2018 and resides in the Amity section of New Haven with her husband and two dogs.
