President, New Haven Board of Alders
Tyisha Walker-Myers serves as President of the New Haven Board of Alders, representing the city’s 23rd Ward. A dedicated public servant and advocate for equity, she leads with a focus on expanding affordable housing, strengthening public education, advancing local hiring, and creating pathways to generational wealth for New Haven residents.
As a champion for working families and communities of color, President Walker-Myers has helped advance inclusionary zoning legislation, establish affordable housing and fair rent commissions, create a municipal land bank, and make New Haven the first city in Connecticut to recognize tenant unions. She has also been a strong advocate for education reform, youth opportunity initiatives, and workforce development partnerships in growing industries such as biotech.
Committed to collaboration, she works closely with community organizations, labor partners, city leaders, and anchor institutions to ensure economic opportunity, fairness, and dignity for all. President Walker-Myers continues to lead with humanity, accountability, and an unwavering commitment to justice.
