Bob Proto

Bob was born in the Fair Haven section of New Haven, later Bob’s family moved to East Haven.  Bob attended East Haven High School and Notre Dame then onto University of New Haven.  While attending classes at UNH, Bob was accepted into a Trades Apprentice Program at Yale University.  He went on to achieve his Heat & Cooling License and Plumbing License beginning his career as a tradesman.  In 1990 Bob became an Executive Board Member of Local 35 Federation of University Employees.  Three years later Bob was elected as their President, a title which he still presently holds.  In 1999 Bob was elected to be the President of the Greater New Haven Central Labor Council which represents all affiliated unions covering most of the 3rd Congressional area.  In 2004 Bob was elected as International Vice President of UNITEHERE, the parent union to Local 35.  UNITEHERE represents thousands of workers in the United States and Canada that are in the hotel, food service, and textile industry.  Bob is known amongst labor leaders as someone who has negotiated some of the best contracts in the country with an emphasis on good medical benefits, good pay, and job security.  Bob also has served on the United Way Board of Directors and on the Empower New Haven Board along with Chairman of Goodwill Easter Seals Campaign.  Bob has dedicated his life to fighting for fairness for workers.  Bob resides with his family in East Haven CT  and has a son in graduate school.
